Tata Motors Limited has been designing and producing cars suitable for the Indian conditions since 1991. The SUV Tata Safari was first introduced in 1998. It underwent modifications in 2003 and again in 2005. In 2007, the then existing engines were replaced by two.2 litre DiCOR diesel engines. In 2012, a brand spanking new model Safari Strome with a two.2 VariCOR diesel engine was launched.
The Tata Safari DiCOR has versions: LX 4x2, EX 4x2, GX 4x2, VX 4x2 and VX 4x4; and the Strome has five variants: LX 4x2, EX 4x2, VX4x2 and VX 4x4 and an Explorer version all in diesel. The front of the automobile is dominated by a grey colored radiator (chrome grille for higher versions), adjustable headlamps with halogen fittings, body coloured bumper with a wide air dam, fog lamps as well as a toughened laminated wind screen with intermittent wipers. For Strome variants, a brand spanking new bumper, a pair of projector head lights and round fog lamps are provided. The electrical rearview mirrors with turn lights and body colored handles give an elegant look. At the rear, a spoiler, high mounted cease lamps and fog lamps (for higher variants only) are provided.
